Reva Khand

Reva Khand is the last khand (section) of the Skand Puran. This khand begins with the count of Purans, their distinctions, and the number of verses described in it. After that the glory of river Reva (Narmada) has been described through the dialogue between Maharshi Markandeya and Yuddhishthir. According to this khand, the emergence of river Narmada has happened from the perspiration of Lord Shiv. According to a boon of Lord Shiv, he himself resides at the bank of this river. The stotra by which Brahmins had first prayed river Narmada is also described in this khand.

After that, the glory of river Kaveri has been described through the story of Kuber. Kuber had become the king of Yaksha due to performing tapa at the confluence of Kaveri and Narmada. Confluence of Kaveri and Narmada has been said to be a holy pilgrim spot. Shivlings named Amareshwar and Chandhast are put up at the bank of this confluence. These Shivlings have been installed as the guard of river Kaveri. Since Kaveri has emerged from the body of Lord Shiv, it is called Punyavati. The glory of Shoolbhedteerth situated at the bank of Narmada is also described in this khand.

After that, there are the episodes of survival of river Narmada and Maharshi Markandeya during the destruction of cosmos by Lord Shiv, wedding of Ravan and Mandodari, and installation of Shivling in the river of Narmada by Meghnad, the son of Ravan. As a result, the Meghnad teerth was established at the bank of Narmada.

After the Meghnad teerth, there is the description of the glory of Bhineeshwar teerth, Naradeeshwar teerth, Dadhiskand teerth, Kaamad teerth, Sauvarnsheel teerth, Madhuskand teerth, and Skand teerth. In the context of Skand teerth, the birth of Shiv's son Kartikeya has been narrated. After that Angiras teerth, Kotis teerth, Kedareeshwar teerth, Pishacheeshwar teerth, Jamadagni teerth, Sarp teerth, and Agni teerth have been described. Besides the stories related with Himalaya, Maharshi Shaaktayan, Parashuram, and Devarshi Narad have been described.

Finally, the Skand Puran has been concluded with the description of the glory of Lord Satyanarayan, method of worship, related holy stories, and the importance of reading, listening and thinking of this Puran.
